Orff Levels - Exploration of NCAS and HĀ standards of the Orff-Schulwerk Approach in the Aloha state

All Levels I, II, and Supplemental Orff levels are offered at the same time, from June 3-6, 8-13. Classes are going on simultaneously with different instructors.
In Orff Level I, participants will explore pedagogy skills for teaching basic principles of Orff Schulwerk. These ideas will be explored and discussed through the use of Music For Children, Margaret Murray, Volume I, as well as American pentatonic and specifically Asian Pacific folk song material, movement, and recorder. Level I teachers will actively learn to use speech, rhymes, poetry, and to play pitched and unpitched percussion, as well as to sing, play, and improvise in pentatonic, to create an active music curriculum in elementary school settings. Participants will also play xylophones and the soprano recorder with an emphasis on pedagogy for children, implementing various scales at a basic level. Emphasis will be placed on creating student-friendly compositions in an elemental style and on developing improvisation models.
Public school teachers who take this course for PDE3 credit will incorporate NCAS Music and HĀ standards into the portfolio.
